The surprise I discovered behind the door

In our home, part of my “thing” is taking out the trash. Over the years, I’ve realized my wife will communicate with me through signs. One sign is heaping trash. It’s cute, right?

It was one of those times when the trash was so high, I didn’t want to take it just to see how high it could get. But it was time. I tied up the bag and put a new one in.

As I opened the front door and walked out, the door slammed behind me.

Now my kids love to prank. So I thought it must be one of them locking me out as a prank. It’s cool, though, ’cause it’s like 60 degrees out today, and it feels incredible.

I open up the trash can lid to throw the bag in and hear a loud scream from the backyard, “I love cold weather!”. It was one of my kids playing outside. And this is the one kid who loves to “lock me in” as she says. Now I was confused. Who slammed the door behind me?

I walked back up to the front door. Turned the knob to see if it was locked, but it was open. I slowly open it and walk in and wait for the sudden “boo” from a little kid behind the door, but nothing.

In my house, you can see the backdoor from where you’re standing at the front door. That’s when I saw it….the back door was open from the kids going in and out. Both doors can’t be open at the same time. The front door wants to shut when the back door is open.

Sometimes the door God opens may close other doors, but the one door He opens for you will be the best one.

‘So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose. ‘ Romans 8:28
