Breaking open the impossible with pliers

A few nights ago, Brooklyn wanted to break open the rest of the Geodes she received as a gift.

What are Geodes, you ask? They appear to be boring rocks but contain beautiful crystals inside. It’s pretty cool, actually. I believe the kit comes with some type of hammer to open them, but I’m pretty sure one of her sisters opened the box at some point and lost it. So she grabbed the first thing she could find in our pantry…pliers.

She laid the box on our bed and began taking out the rocks. She took the pliers and brought her hand back to smack the rock but then set them down and said, “I can’t use these! I need a hammer!” I thought, maybe not.

I grabbed the pliers and began to hit the rock, and as I did, little tiny rock chips started flying everywhere. At that moment, I saw Brooklyn’s confidence rise. She realized she didn’t need a hammer; she just needed to see what was possible with the pliers.

Maybe the faith needed for your next breakthrough is not found in the hammer you don’t have, but the pliers you do have.

Matthew 17:20
‘So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. ‘
